Steve Pepple is a journalist and photographer based in Detroit.
Steve is director of watchdog reporting/communities at the Detroit Free Press and a part-time adjunct journalism instructor at Eastern Michigan University. He previously worked as the print director at the now defunct AnnArbor.com, overseeing the production of the twice-weekly newspaper. He was the metro editor at the Ann Arbor News and previously served as the managing editor of The Herald-Palladium in Benton Harbor-St. Joseph, Mich. He got his start in journalism working as a reporter at The Spinal Column newsweeklies in Oakland County. A year later, he moved to Benton Harbor-St. Joseph, Mich., where he worked as a police and courts reporter, moving up the ranks to serve as managing editor of the then 34,000 circulation daily newspaper.

Steve graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in American Literature, Journalism and Political Science. He has studied photography in Italy and at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Mich. He lives in Detroit.
